"Tide Out" presents a serene moment with three yellow sailboats moored together in a tranquil bay, awaiting the changing tide. This expansive, horizontal painting captures the essence of a perfect break spot, framed by big fluffy clouds. The composition and vivid colors convey a sense of peaceful anticipation and the simple joy of a day on the water.
Encaustic, from the Greek "enkaustikos" meaning "to heat or burn in," combines natural beeswax and dammar resin. I create my pieces using wax mediums, pigment blocks, oil paints, and occasionally pigment sticks, applying the hot wax with various tools and fusing with a blow torch.
Each artwork is presented on high-quality birch or maple panels, ready to hang or elegantly display on a shelf. Like any fine art, encaustic paintings should be kept at room temperature and away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures; wax melts at 150°F / 65°C.
